Tiny Trail — Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 2026 · Developer: GKnot Studios
1. Overview
Tiny Trail is a private, offline-first memory-keeping app for caregivers. Your memories, photos, and notes are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared — they leave your device only if you personally choose to share or export them. Tiny Trail uses a small number of third-party services for app reliability and subscription management, described in Sections 3 and 10 below; none of them ever receive your memories, photos, or notes.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not operate a Tiny Trail account system, and we do not collect contact information or any data about your child beyond what you choose to enter into the app.
3. Information We Collect Automatically
To keep the app reliable and to support subscriptions, Tiny Trail uses a small number of third-party services that automatically collect limited technical data. This is separate from, and much narrower than, your memory content — none of these services ever receive your child's name, birth date, milestones, notes, photos, or audio recordings.
- App usage analytics (Firebase Analytics, by Google): general app interaction data (e.g., which screens and features are used), device model and OS version, an anonymous app installation identifier, and approximate country/region-level location derived from IP address. Tiny Trail does not request GPS or precise location access from your device, and does not collect an advertising identifier.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics, by Google): automatic technical reports (device model, OS version, error details) if the app crashes, to help us fix bugs.
- Purchase data (RevenueCat): if you purchase Tiny Trail Enchanted, purchase details (product, transaction ID, date) are shared with RevenueCat to verify your purchase and unlock features. Payment is handled by the app store you downloaded Tiny Trail from (Apple's App Store or Google Play) — we never receive or store your payment card details.
None of this technical data is linked to your name or identity.
If you're located in the European Union — determined using your device's timezone setting, not GPS or IP-based location — Tiny Trail asks for your explicit consent before enabling Analytics and Crashlytics. Both stay off until you agree. You can review or change this choice at any time from the app's Settings screen; turning it off stops further collection immediately. Outside the EU, Analytics and Crashlytics are enabled by default as described above.
4. Information You Enter
Users may optionally input child names, birth month and year, milestones, notes, dates, dialog entries, and photos. Birth month and year are used only to calculate your child's age shown alongside memories (e.g., in the timeline and PDF exports) — like everything else, this stays on your device and is never uploaded or shared.
5. Photos and Media
Selected photos are copied into the app's private storage. The app does not scan your photo library or access photos you haven't selected. Photos may be included in local backup files. Tiny Trail never uploads them to any server — they leave your device only if you choose to share or export a backup file yourself.
6. Audio Recordings
Recordings are stored locally on your device, the same way photos are. Tiny Trail never uploads them to any server — they leave your device only if you choose to share or export a backup file yourself.
7. PDF Exports
Timeline PDFs are generated locally on your device. The app neither stores nor uploads these files; you control how they are saved or shared.
8. Backups and Restore
Users can create local backup ZIP files containing milestones, notes, dialog entries, audio recordings, and photos. These backups stay on your device unless you choose to move or share them yourself (e.g., to a cloud drive or another device) — Tiny Trail itself never uploads them. If you choose to save or share a backup to a third-party cloud storage service (such as Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox), that copy is then subject to that service's own privacy policy and security practices, which are outside GKnot Studios' control.
9. Notifications
If you enable reminders, Tiny Trail schedules local notifications directly on your device's operating system. These reminders are not sent through any external server and contain no personal data beyond what's needed to display the notification itself.
10. Third-Party Services
Recording memories, exporting PDFs, and creating backups all operate fully offline and never involve any third party. Tiny Trail does use the following third-party services for app reliability and subscriptions, as described in Section 3: Google (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics), RevenueCat, and your platform's app store billing system (Apple's App Store or Google Play Billing). Tiny Trail does not use advertising services, and none of these third parties are used for advertising or for tracking you across other apps or websites.
11. International Data Transfer
Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics (both provided by Google), and RevenueCat may process the technical data described in Section 3 on servers located outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Both providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other legally recognized safeguards to govern these transfers. Details are available in Google's Firebase Data Processing Terms and RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
12. Your Rights (EU/EEA Users)
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to: access, correct, or request deletion of your technical data (see Section 17); withdraw your consent to analytics and crash reporting at any time, as easily as you gave it, via the app's Settings screen; object to or request restriction of this processing; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. These rights apply to the technical data described in Section 3 — Tiny Trail has no access to your memories, photos, notes, or recordings to begin with, as explained in Section 1.
13. Permissions
The app may request the following permissions, each used only when you initiate the corresponding feature:
- Photo/Media access — to attach photos to a memory
- Camera access — to take a new photo directly from the app, if you choose to
- Microphone access — to record audio for "Said Today" moments
- Notifications — to show optional local reminders
- File/Storage access — to save and restore backup files, and to export PDFs
14. Intended Audience
Tiny Trail is intended for use by adults and caregivers, not children directly.
15. Security
Data storage relies on your device's operating system security. Users should maintain device locks, create regular backups, and store backups securely.
16. Your Responsibility
As your memories, photos, notes, and recordings are stored only on your device, GKnot Studios cannot access or recover this content if it's lost. Users bear responsibility for backup creation and storage.
17. How to Request Deletion of Your Data
Tiny Trail does not store your memories, photos, notes, or audio recordings anywhere but your own device — we have no copy of this content, so there is nothing for us to delete on our end. Uninstalling the app permanently removes it.
We do collect limited technical data through Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and RevenueCat (see Section 3). To request deletion of this data:
- Email gknot.studios@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request."
- Include your approximate device model, app version, and roughly when you used the app, so we can locate the right records (this data isn't linked to your name or an account, so we can't look it up by identity alone).
- We will submit a deletion request to Google (for Analytics/Crashlytics data) and RevenueCat (for purchase records) as soon as reasonably possible.
What's deleted vs. retained: Analytics and crash data is deleted from Google's systems upon request. Without a request, individual event data (e.g., specific app interactions) is automatically deleted after 2 months, and any data associated with your device's anonymous identifier is automatically deleted after 14 months. Purchase records held by RevenueCat may be retained beyond a deletion request where required for financial or tax record-keeping, but will no longer be tied to any future use of the app.
18. No Warranty
The app is provided "as is" without warranties. GKnot Studios accepts no liability for data loss or device-related damages.
19. Changes to This Policy
Policy updates may occur and will be posted on this page. Continued use indicates acceptance of revisions.
